1946 Movie Screening

6/22/2024

Picture
Join in a film screening Friday, June 28 at 7:00PM, followed by conversation Sunday, June 30th after the worship service. “1946” is a feature documentary that follows the story of tireless researchers who trace the origins of the anti-gay movement among Christians to a grave mistranslation of the Bible in 1946—the year the word “homosexual” first appeared in the modern Bible.

Watch the trailer below.

CANCELED: Blessing Bags

6/17/2024

UPDATE: Due to the needs of the displaced residents from Second Avenue Commons downtown, the items collected for our Blessing Bags have been used to donate to the relief effort by Pittsburgh Mercy.  Therefore, we will not be assembling Blessing Bags on July 7 as discussed.  Thank you all for your generosity.  The donations are going to those truly in need and we're grateful for your support in loving our neighbors!

June 1 Update:
Dear FPCE Family,

We have not yet secured enough donations of items to assemble our Blessing Bags that we scheduled to put together tomorrow after church. We're going to spend the next month gathering the items needed so that we can create 100 bags to distribute to those in need in our community. The new Blessing Bag assembly date is Sunday, July 7 after worship.

To help us better organize our donations and to allow others to see what is needed, we're going to again attempt to use SignUp Genius. I know, I know, we have not been successful doing this, but I PROMISE YOU it's easy! We use it for literally every event the choir and drama club at North Hills organizes for donations and volunteer times. No need for clipboards, or calling the office and having Judy keep track of it, no trying to remember what you signed up for, and you can go back to the link as often as you'd like to see who has signed up and what might be left as we get closer to the assembly day. You can even have the site send you a reminder about your sign-up.

We've added a list of each item requested, put suggested sizes to purchase (10-packs, 48-packs, etc), and the number needed of each (10 sets of 10-packs). If you decide to donate an item, just sign up for the amount you plan to buy (ex: I'm buying 4 10-packs of toothpaste - so I sign up for 4 of the slots, then the form shows 6 remaining slots to fill.). We will close the sign-up form on Friday, July 5 so that anything left on the list can be purchased on Saturday before we assemble on Sunday.

Thanks for your donations to this project that came from the generous spirit of our young friend Sophia.

Peace,
Shaun

Donations for Second Avenue Commons

6/14/2024

IMMEDIATE AID REQUEST
As you may have heard, Second Avenue Commons recently burned down. This building housed some 180 individuals that Pittsburgh Mercy (Barbara Bisdee's employer) cares for.  This is a terrible loss, as you can imagine, and Mercy is looking for donations and supplies. Mercy is in need of donations and supplies. The building has been condemned and the residents lost all of the little they had. You can bring these items to the church, and we will ensure they are delivered to Mercy. Some needed items include:

Snack Donations
Unopened boxes of the following are needed.
  • Pre-packaged peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
  • Grab-and-go cereal bars and trail mix bars.
  • Beef jerky
  • Electrolyte/sports drinks (regular and sugar-free)
  • Electrolyte powder packet mix-ins
  • Bottled water.

New Clothing Donations
New clothing donations only, please. Items most requested by persons we serve:
  • Sweatpants (men’s and women’s, all sizes)
  • T-shirts (men’s and women’s, all sizes)
  • Men’s boxers (all sizes)
  • Slides or flip flop sandals
  • Backpacks that zip
  • Duffel bags that close.

Monetary Donations
Mercy is requesting emergency monetary donations as well to provide for the daily needs of the residents of the shelter who have been displaced by the fire and lost what little they had. Donations will also help Pittsburgh Mercy provide emergency housing, clothing, medical care, hygiene items, and any other necessary items that individuals may need.
No gift is too small. Every gift matters:

Vocal Confluence Shows

6/14/2024

Picture
Vocal Confluence, Pittsburgh’s All-Voice Barbershop Chorus, will be performing at The Frick Pittsburgh “Summer Fridays at the Frick” on June 14, 2024 at 6:30PM. Enjoy a cappella, primarily in the barbershop style, from the full chorus and small groups, including our chapter quartets. You won’t want to miss this outdoor performance!

Vocal Confluence’s summer show, “I Wanna See You Be Brave,” will take place on Saturday, June 15 at 6:00PM and Sunday, June 16 at 3:00PM in the FPCE Sanctuary with special guests, GQ!
Since this show is going to have increased demand, we have adopted a different ticketing model than we have in the past!

If you want to guarantee yourself a seat, please purchase your tickets ahead of time! Those with tickets will be given priority seating.  Adult tickets are $20, children and students are $10 and can be purchased at vocalconfluence.org.  Any leftover seats will be available as a “Pay What You Can” option at the door on the day of the show only. We still want to provide an affordable option for those who may not be able to pay for tickets to our show, so we thought it was important to still offer our usual donation-only option.

For those that love strawberries, you’ll be happy to know June 19th is the date for this year’s Strawberry Festival (6pm). This is our annual Deacon fundraiser and helps us do good for our church family and friends all year long. We are cutting berries on Tuesday, the 18th at 11am. We can always use a few more hands.
