NEWS & UPDATES

7/1 Community Dinner Will Be Inside

6/30/2026

Picture
Due to the heat, our July community dinner will be held inside the church downstairs in the social room. So that none of our members need to be out grilling in the sun, we’ve change the menu to include ham barbecue, pulled pork, and sloppy joe sandwiches in addition to our usual side dishes and desserts. All are welcome to cool off and enjoy a meal with neighbors and friends on Wednesday, July 1 starting at 6pm until the food runs out!

First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood will open its doors to anyone needing to escape the heat as temperatures rise throughout the week.  Our Gathering Place and Lounge will be open to all and the air conditioners will be running to provide relief on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, June 30, July 1, and July 2 from 9AM to 5PM.  Get some work done at the tables in the Gathering Place, or relax on the couches and chairs in the Lounge.  Power strips will be provided for charging of devices, and the church also has guest WiFi available.

Scam Alert

Attention friends and members of the FPCE Family:
We’ve heard from several folks that an email appearing to be from Pastor Jason asking for people to help with a “confidential ministry issue” and to purchase gift cards has reached inboxes. This is NOT Jason. If you click on the “from” section you will note that the reply-to email is not one of our official fpcedgewood addresses. This “spoofing” has become very common in churches and non-profits over recent years, and sadly there is very little we can do about it since they are impersonating our emails and not actually hacking them and sending from our accounts. Be vigilant and always contact the staff directly if you receive one of these messages. None of the church leadership will ever send a message like this. If you receive the email, delete it and block the sender!

The Community Dinners are back!
June 3, July 1, August 5, September 2
Save the Dates: The First Wednesdays of June, July, August, and September at 6:00PM we’ll be firing up the grill on the side lawn (weather permitting – social room if inclement weather). And, as usual, they’re FREE! So bring your family, friends and neighbors for good food and fellowship!!! We start serving at 6:00 and go until the food runs out or the crowd dies down, whichever happens first!
Help is always needed with set-up, side dishes, desserts, serving, and tear-down. Contact the Church Office to let us know how you can help us make these important community outreach events happen successfully!

You'll Learn:
  • What an Estate Plan is and why it's important for everyone to safeguard their assets – not just the wealthy
  • The 3 things your estate plan must include to keep your money out of the hands of the government (and most certainly doesn’t right now, even if you’ve worked with a lawyer)
  • Specific strategies to make taxes 100% voluntary so you can preserve wealth for your loved ones
  • Why having a Will alone isn’t enough and will likely fail your family when it matters most
  • What estate planning should cost and who pays the cost of “cheap legal” plans

Strawberry Festival: 6/13

6/2/2026

We are excited to bring you year two of our reimagined Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 13 from 11am-2pm! If you love strawberries, this is the place to be. From chocolate-dipped strawberries and refreshing strawberry lemonade to the Pittsburgh favorite, strawberry pretzel salad, there will be strawberry treats galore. And don’t worry, the classic strawberry shortcake topped with ice cream and whipped cream will once again be served from the church side lawn. This year’s festival will also feature live acoustic music from local Edgewood band MilePost6, lawn games for kids and kids-at-heart, temporary tattoos, fresh strawberries sold by the bunch, and a bake sale filled with homemade goodies. If your tummy is rumbling for something a little more savory, enjoy a hot dog fresh off the grill. We hope you’ll join us for a delicious day of food, music, fun, and community on Saturday, June 13th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. — or until the strawberries sell out! The event is rain or shine. “Bring your neighbors, invite your friends, and celebrate the sweetness of summer with us!” If you would like to volunteer or donate baked goods for the bake sale, please contact Rhonda Appesos.

Vocal Confluence 6/13-6/14

6/2/2026

Picture
Vocal Confluence, Pittsburgh's All-Voice Barbershop Chorus, is proud to announce its 2026 summer show: "Why We're Here | An A Cappella Celebration of Why We Sing."  Shows will be held Saturday, June 13 at 7:30pm and Sunday, June 14 at 3:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood.

Every song in our repertoire has a purpose, and every person in our chorus has a reason for singing each song. Whether we are seeking to inspire to make our world a better place, or we are trying not to take ourselves too seriously, every piece of music has a story. Join us to hear why WE sing.

We follow a “Pay What You Can” ticketing model; seats are first-come, first-served and donation-only. We hope this allows as many people to have access to our music as possible. Our show will also be live-streamed on YouTube.

Vocal Confluence is Pittsburgh's only all-voice barbershop chorus, and competes internationally under the Barbershop Harmony Society organization. We have been hired to sing at various Pittsburgh events and concert series, including Fridays at the Frick, Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch, and even at The Pavilion at Star Lake to open for Foreigner.
