Building Bridges: Waverly & Edgewood Border Mission

Two Congregations. One Border. A Shared Journey of Faith.

This fall, First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood (FPCE) and Waverly Presbyterian Church are uniting our hearts, resources, and prayers to form a historic, combined delegation. From October 31 to November 6, 2026, twenty participants from our sister Pittsburgh congregations will journey together to the U.S.–Mexico border for an immersive mission partnership with Frontera de Cristo in Douglas, Arizona, and Agua Prieta, Sonora.

Frontera de Cristo is a binational Presbyterian ministry that builds bridges of relationship, understanding, and hope across borders. Rather than just "doing mission for" a community, this trip centers on mutual encounter, listening, and walking alongside vulnerable populations.

🌟 Our Mission & Impact

By supporting this delegation, you are directly funding a journey focused on deep relationship-building and humanitarian support. While at the border, our team will:

• Engage and Learn: Participate in theological reflection, walk desert paths, and sit down for honest conversations with community leaders and the U.S. Border Patrol.
• Directly Support Partner Ministries: Provide financial and hands-on solidarity to essential grassroots organizations, including the Migrant Resource Center, the CAME migrant shelter, and the DouglaPrieta Trabaja women's cooperative.
• Boost the Local Micro-Economy: Partner with sustainable efforts like Café Justo, a coffee cooperative helping growers stay on their family lands.

💰 Where Your Donation Goes

The baseline cost to send an individual delegate is roughly $1,300, which covers round-trip airfare, airport transportation, modest lodging, translation services, and three meals a day. 

Through individual participant deposits, church mission committees, and regional grants, we have already laid a strong foundation—covering more than half of the total trip costs! Our goal now is to raise the remaining $600 per participant to bridge the gap and ensure that financial barriers do not prevent anyone from serving.

Your tax-deductible donation goes directly toward these expenses:

• $25 – Contributes to a day of local translation services on the border.
• $50 – Helps cover meals and hospitality provided by our binational hosts.
• $150 – Sponsors one full day of immersive programming and lodging for a delegate.
• $600 – Fully bridges the fundraising gap for one team member!

By keeping our individual costs accessible, you are helping members from both congregations return to Pittsburgh as equipped, educated advocates for localized justice, peacemaking, and systemic poverty alleviation.
