Mark your calendars for Edgewood Community Day, happening Saturday, August 26 at Koenig Field! Start your day with the Community Day Yard Sale from 8am-2pm (details below). Then head to the field for the main festivities, including food, market vendors, entertainment, games, pony rides and more, starting at 2pm. This year will include some familiar favorites and some new surprises, like a mini golf course in the tennis courts! Per tradition, the day ends with music from the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra and a fantastic fireworks display!
Our Mission and Public Witness Committee is organizing a craft table for this event. If you are interested in participating by setting up, running the table for a shift, or cleaning up, contact Stephanie McGuigan or Rhonda Apessos. Voces Solis presents the 13th annual Summer Singers, featuring an ensemble of nearly 120 performing a varied selection of choral repertoire under the skilled direction of artistic director Dr. Ryan Keeling. The concert takes place at 7:00PM in the FPCE Sanctuary on Saturday, August 12. Founded in 2011, Summer Singers is committed to bringing together musicians, teachers, and lovers of choral music to share in the art and fellowship of choral singing. Our goal is to elevate our own standards of musicianship while rekindling our love for music making, enabling us to pass this fire on to our students and fellow musicians. Concerts are free and open to the public. Donations will gladly be accepted to continue the work of Voces Solis in providing the highest quality choral music to the Pittsburgh and surrounding regions. Join the Edgewood Veterans and First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood as we pay tribute to those who gave their lives in service to our country on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at Noon, immediately following morning worship, across the street at Memorial Park.
Join us on Sunday, May 14th for “Mothering Sunday”—as we celebrate both our mothers and our Mother Church.
In the Middle Ages, churches around the world celebrated a pilgrimage day, where you returned to the church you were baptized at. If you were baptized or grew up at FPCE, we invite you to return for this special service to remember your baptism and the church community you grew up in. Mother’s Day can be a difficult day for those who have lost their mothers or never had the chance to become a mother. Our hope for Mothering Sunday is that we can embrace and commemorate a broader definition of motherhood. In Britain, Constance Adelaide Smith advocated for a revival of this tradition, where all friends and family are invited to return to the church in which they were baptized. She encouraged churches to focus on the Mother Church, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Mother Nature as some of the other mothers in our lives. As a Matthew 25 church, we are celebrating Mothering Sunday this year to embrace “Caring Relationships,” another mark of being a Vital Congregation. Everyone wants a place to belong—people who care about us. Mothering Sunday is our invitation for anyone who grew up at FPCE or was baptized here to return for this Sunday, as a family reunion. Caring Relationships in Christ require true agape love; a sacrificial, self-emptying, perfect love—the love of a mother. On this Mothering Sunday, we invite you to worship with us—to let us walk with you in tragedy, rejoice with you in your triumphs, and sit with you as we hear your stories. The love of Christ and the Mother Church is unconditional, so come without hiding or holding back who you are. You are part of God’s family and ours as well.
