Christian Depth Development
“TENDING TO THE GARDEN”
When Mary met the Risen Jesus on that first Easter morning, she thought he was a gardener. Not a bad guess, actually. Scripture refers to God’s word as the seed; we are the soil. Having Jesus as our gardener is the perfect image. Learning how to cooperate with the gardener of our souls is what Christian Education is all about. I hope you will join us. Pastor Michael will be teaching two classes each week through the spring.
Sunday mornings at 9:45 am – Living the Resurrection
Christ’s friends were utterly transformed by His resurrection. Their friendship, their work, and even their meals together took on a new meaning and purpose. The same can happen to us today. Eugene Peterson, beloved pastor, scholar, and translator of The Message, takes you back to Jesus’ time so you can experience the Resurrection through the eyes of biblical witnesses. You’ll be a participant in the story, so its meaning and wonder can enliven your soul as never before.
Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm – Falling Upward
A class designed for those of us who have been on the road for awhile. Many of us are fully (albeit reluctantly) engaged with life as a middle-ager. We have experienced the ups and downs, the joys and sorrows, the letting go and looking forward that comes to everyone. Let’s take some time to learn what life has taught us. How God is as present to us as always, but we are different people. This will be a meaningful time together.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION: Learning and Growing Together

ADULTS GROWING TOGETHER
9:45 A.M. SUNDAY MORNINGS (beginning September 10)
Pastor Michael will lead a class in the lounge. You are encouraged to join us at any time. If you miss a week or two, not a problem, hop back on board at any time.
“What are the earliest known writings about Jesus?” Many of us assume that the books of the New Testament were written in the order they appear (first Matthew, then Mark, etc.) Not so! The earliest known writings about Jesus are the letters the Apostle Paul wrote to the earliest Christian communities. This fall we will take a week or two to look at each of Paul’s letters. How should Christians live together? How are we to live out our faith in a culture which does not profess Jesus to be Lord? We will mull over and discuss these questions together. And, yes, we do have a good time together. For Sunday, September 10, read Paul’s Letter to the Romans chapters 1 - 4
7:00 P.M. WEDNESDAY EVENINGS
Pastor Michael will teach a class on various subjects of interest to all involved. Sometimes we will read a book together. Sometimes the classes will be seasonal (advent and lent), sometimes we will study a certain subject of interest.
7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 20
September 20 marks the first of ten days known as “Days of Awe.” Intrigued? I hope so. Jesus celebrated “the Days of Awe” during his years on earth. This will be a great way to get us started!
· Children’s Sunday School meets during worship.
· The Adult Class is studying the "Tour of the Bible" at 9:45 in the Lounge.
The Men's Group will meet at its usual day and time, which is 2nd and 4th Mondays at 7:00 PM.
Tuesday Morning Book Club
The Jesus I Never Knew by renowned author Philip Yancey lives up to its title. This book opens our eyes up to the world in which Jesus lived and moved and had his being. We will uncover new insights in the life and death of the Risen Lord. This group meets Tuesday mornings at 10:00AM at Rhonda Apessos’ home (361 Maple Ave.)
BLOCKS (Believing Little Ones Can Know and Serve)
provides a fun and casual setting for our youngest friends to learn and play. Each session, we focus on a different word (or “building block”). This December – no surprise here – we’re talking about Jesus! Please join us for this special Christmas-themed edition of BLOCKS. We will sing (and dance and jump) our way through the Christmas story. A small craft and playtime will follow the lesson. Youthful energy and exuberance is most welcome as we celebrate the new life, new hope, and new joy the wonderful Child brings. Please spread the word to your friends, family, and neighbors to join us on Tuesday, Dec. 6th, at 6:30 in the nursery. Caregivers should attend with children (program is geared for kids ages toddler to kindergarten).
