In Memoriam: Frances Hollingsworth

HOLLINGSWORTH, FRANCES ELAINE
Frances died Tuesday, June 27, 2017, of Wilkins Township and formerly of Edgewood.
The only child of William and Frances (Atkins) Duffy, she was born in Lancaster, PA, on August 7, 1924. Educated in the public schools of Ridgewood, NJ, she graduated from Elizabethtown, PA, High School. She attended the University of Pennsylvania and Jefferson School of Nursing in Philadelphia. In 1944, she married Gerald Hollingsworth who at the time was a student at Jefferson School of Medicine. Following World War II she and her husband lived in Princeton, NJ while he attended Princeton Theological Seminary.

As a Presbyterian pastor's wife, Frances was a loyal helpmate to her husband in each of the parishes he served, including congregations in Edgeworth, Waynesburg, and Edgewood. Doctor Hollingsworth was Senior Pastor of the Edgewood Church for 30 years. Frances served as a Sunday School teacher, Cradle Roll superintendent, as well as chaired women's groups and various fundraising projects for mission works. For some time she served as a volunteer receptionist for the Intensive Care Unit of Presbyterian Hospital.

She is survived by her husband of more than 72 years; her son, David (Margaret), of Greenville, SC; her daughter, Carol (Joseph) McKenna, of Wilkins; there are also five grandchildren, Jonathan Hollingsworth, of New York City, James (Katie) Maloney, of Florence, SC, Gerald P. (Ambray) Maloney, of Chocowinity, NC, David (Alysa) Maloney, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Caitlin Maloney, of Ocean Side, CA; there are also eight great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood. There is no visitation. Arrangements by the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME, INC.
